ZSI: More Millipede Science Inquiry!

The students are developing on a "Testable Question" to use to conduct an experiment with their millipedes!  They will apply the Scientific Method to help them conduct their Inquiry:)

Biography Study

We have been studying the genre of Biographies!  The students' engaged in an activity where they read a biography with a partner and collected the "Important" information about their person by using their determining importance reading strategy! They will be choosing a Biography to analyze and create and information power point about!

Math Measurement Activity

We have been discussing how important it is to understand measurement using the Metric System, as well as, the US Customary System.  In this activity we were estimating the measurements of classroom objects based on "personal reference measurements," and then checking our estimates with the actual measurement! 




Zoo Science Inquiry: Working with Millipedes


Suzy our Zoo Inquiry Instructor meets with us once a week (on Tuesday's usually) to teach a lesson!  On this particular day we were getting to work with millipedes:)  We found out that each group gets to have 2 millipedes in their terrarium to observe!

ZSI: Building our Zoo Terrarium

This year our Avilla 4th grade is involved in a 9 week Zoo Program where we will be studying Scientific Inquiry and Ecosystems! The students get to build a terrarium to observe and they will be creating a scientific inquiry project to study! Here are some pictures of them building their terrariums:)




Ball State University Field Trip

Our Ball State Field Trip was a success!  We were taken on a great tour through the Ball State Campus, got to view a dorm room, meet some BSU football players & cheerleaders, and talk with real Ball State students!



October Recess Break!

We finally got to go outside for recess! The weather has kept us in this week and the kids NEED their outside recess time!

Studying Maps Scales with Globes!!!!!

The students worked in small teams to estimate distances of specific locations around the world from Washington D.C. on the globe.  
They used the map scale.  
1 inch = 660 miles!
Ask your child which location was the furthest from Washington D.C. and which was the closet!
